BEST — Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (PC, Xbox | 2003)

Bioware’s expansive RPG epic was one of the most hotly anticipated games of 2003, and it lived up to the hype. Set in a blessedly Gungan-free galaxy thousands of years before the first trilogy, the game was a rollicking space opera featuring loads of quests, an addicting minigame called Pazaak, and the psychotic robot sidekick HK-47, easily one of the greatest characters in RPG history. For those made bitter by the then current prequel movies, KOTOR was the first step on the long road to recovery — and perhaps the finest Star Wars video game ever.
