Apple Adds 3 New Channels to Apple TV

Apple added three new channels Monday to expand its Apple TV offerings. Courtesy of A&E Networks, cable subscribers can now download apps for Lifetime, A&E, and The History Channel. The only catch is that the providers supported in the rollout are limited to DirecTV, Verizon FiOS, and Cablevision Optimum.

While the network says support for other major and local providers is forthcoming, fans of Dance Moms on Comcast will still have to wait to stream their favorite episodes.

Apple has slowly been ramping up its content lineup in recent months, though it pales in comparison to Roku’s host of channels. Late last year, it added support for ABC and Bloomberg, among others. Apple is still expected to launch a revamped version of the set-top box sometime this year, which will reportedly support gaming in addition to its current crop of video apps.
