Amazon sells out George Orwell’s ‘1984’ in total coincidence

Donald Trump has been president for a full week, which brought us a full week of controversies, alternative lies, and lots of executive orders. It also happens that George Orwell’s dystopian hit 1984 was sold out on Amazon. No one knows why this is! Apparently, a story about dictatorship is currently the kind of book Americans want to read. Go figure.

It sure is funny to link Trump to 1984, but it’s pretty clear there’s a correlation between the two.

Printed by Signet Classics, 1984 is now out of stock at Amazon both in hardcover and softcover versions. Gizmodo points out that the book topped Amazon’s best-selling list earlier this week. CNN does report that Penguin, who owns Signet Classics, is looking to print more copies of Orwell’s novel.

“We put through a 75,000 copy reprint this week. That is a substantial reprint and larger than our typical reprint for ‘1984,’” a Penguin spokesman told CNN.

You can, however, still purchase the Kindle version of the book and read it on a mobile device or computer. Of course, that’s not the same as actually holding a paperback book, enjoying a glass of whatever lifts your spirit and delighting yourself in what Trump’s America might be.

It’s likely that Amazon will soon get additional 1984 in the near future. Until that time you can always keep up with what’s happening in the real world. They’re going to be pretty entertaining, for all the wrong reasons.
