Amazon awards Columbus student $40K scholarship

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Amazon is fueling technology and life dreams by awarding scholarships to 400 students across the country who want to pursue computer science or engineering careers, and one of those recipients is from Columbus.

Fatima Abdulkadir is a senior at Metro Early College High School and she wants to pursue a career in computer design, saying she’s passionate about computers.

On Monday, she learned she’s the recipient of a $40,000 scholarship which she plans to put to use at Ohio State University.

Computer science is the fastest-growing profession in the STEM field, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting the market for jobs will grow 23% over the next 10 years.

Also, the median annual wage for computer engineering and IT jobs is topping $100,000.
