These Adorably Rugged Russian Trucks Will Drive On and Over Anything

From Popular Mechanics

If you're driving around off-road in the Russian wilderness, you are going to come across all sorts of snow, ice, mud, dirt, logs, you name it. So if you're taking your all terrain vehicle to Siberia, it better be able to tackle all terrains. And from the looks of it, these little big-wheeled trucks can do just that, even if they don't look super imposing while they're doing it.

You can suss out a lot about the little buggers just from Alex Rudoi's video of them in action above. They've big wheels, and not only are they big they are also buoyant, with little paddles that appear to let this little guys putter around in the water. Their traction on the ice leaves a little bit to be desired, but they can crack it up like nobody's business.

This sturdy little vehicle is called the SHERP. It's based of an old DIY design from Alexei Garagashyan in 2010 that had a frame made of welded together pipes. On land, the little guys can get up to speeds of near 30 mph, and in water they can chug along at just over three. But perhaps best of all is the price, which according to the SHERP website, is only about $50,000 in U.S. dollars.

You need only watch a few more videos of them in action to see how great of a deal that is.
