4K drone footage reveals that Apple’s Spaceship campus is nearing completion
As Apple preps to move into its new spaceship campus in 2017, progress on the company’s gargantuan new headquarters is coming along nicely. Thanks to Matthew Roberts, who just recently shot some jaw-dropping footage of Tesla’s Gigafactory, we now have some new 4K drone footage of Apple’s new campus to enjoy as well.
With Apple planning to run its new building using 100% renewable energy, taking a close look at the solar panels on top of the structure is particularly interesting. Per the video, Roberts estimates that installation of solar panels is about 65% complete at this point.

Apple’s Spaceship campus was originally conceived by Steve Jobs in 2011 as a direct response to the incredible amount of growth Apple was experiencing at the time. Apple was initially hoping to finish the project by 2015 but the entire operation was beset by a variety of minor delays.
One of the cooler design aspects of the building is that the exterior of the building will consist of 3,000 specially designed and engineered curved glass panels that, taken together, will measure in at about one mile in circumference.
“There’s not a single straight piece of glass in this building,” Jobs said during a Cupertino City Council meeting a few years ago. “We’ve used our experience in building retail buildings all over the world. We know how to make the biggest pieces of glass for architectural use. And, we want to make the glass specifically for this building here. We can make it curve all the way around the building… It’s pretty cool.”
