Borrowing some of the spotlights from the 2024 Chinese GP, the team at Mercedes-AMG showed off one of its quickest products ever. The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance blends the company’s 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 with its hybrid system to make 805 hp and can rocket this coupe from a standing start to 60 mph in only 2.7 seconds. This hopped-up AMG GT also packs carbon ceramic brakes, rear axle steering, and a fully variable all-wheel-drive system.

As mentioned above, this AMG GT 63 S E Performance still packs the 4.0-liter V8 under the hood. While the rest of this system is new to the Mercedes-AMG GT, it’s not a new system for AMG. This S E Performance hybrid system showed up under the skin of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance.

Just like the SL 63, the 4.0-liter V8 sends that power through a nine-speed automatic transmission and into an all-wheel-drive system. The turbocharged V8 is augmented by a 201-hp electric motor that’s mounted to the rear axle.

This powertrain is good enough to propel the AMG GT 63 S E Performance more quickly than the hilariously zippy AMG One hypercar. According to Mercedes, the AMG GT 63 S E Performance runs out of steam at 199 mph. That might be fine for some, but if you want to go to 219 mph you’ll have to step up to the AMG One.

Of course, the AMG GT 63 S E Performance needs some serious supporting hardware to best take advantage of its powertrain. Bringing this hybrid GT 63 to a stop is a set of 16-inch front and 15-inch rear carbon ceramic rotors. Six-piston brake calipers are clamping each front rotor, with a single-piston floating rear caliper clamping down on each rear rotor.

Adding even more slowing force, the GT 63 S E Performance also features regenerative braking to shove electricity back into the 6.1-kWh battery pack. You can also charge that battery with the onboard 3.7 kW charger.

Helping you in the corners, the folks at Mercedes-AMG stuffed the AMG Active Ride Control suspension system underneath this AMG GT 63. This system uses the GT’s struts with hydraulics instead of a traditional stabilizer bar to control roll movements. According to Mercedes, this system gives you the advantage of on-road comfort but can firm up when you need dynamic cornering.

Mercedes-AMG also includes a rear-axle steering system. This system can steer the rear wheels in the opposite direction of the front wheels below 60 mph to help make the GT 63 S E Performance more nimble. Above 60 mph, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front to help with stability.

Rounding out the major performance updates on the GT 63 S E Performance is its aero package. This AMG GT packs an active aero system underneath that deploys at 50 mph. This underbody aero works to help generate a venturi effect underneath the AMG GT and, according to Mercedes, sucks it to the road and reduces front axle lift. There’s also a retractable rear spoiler, which responds to inputs like vehicle speed, steering speed, and lateral and longitudinal acceleration to adjust the wing angle.

On the inside, you’ll get standard, power AMG sport seats, which also pack massage features. If you want more aggressive seating, AMG Performance seats are available. Single-tone or two-tone Nappa leather options are available, as are different stitch styles.

Mercedes-AMG says that these GT 63 S E Performance models heading to dealers late in 2024. As for price, as the old adage says: if you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it. The standard AMG GT 63 will set you back a cool $177,050, which means this high-performance hybrid will likely start above the $200,000 threshold.
