It’s been 19 years since the first YouTube video was filmed at San Diego Zoo

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Zoo is known for being one of the top zoos in the country, but did you know the first YouTube video took place there?

On Tuesday, it was exactly 19 years since YouTube user “jawed” uploaded the 19-second video titled “Me at the zoo” on April 23, 2005.

The video shows the man known as “jawed” in front of an elephant exhibit at the San Diego Zoo. He is seen describing the elephants, saying “the cool thing about these guys is that they have really, really, really long trunks and that’s cool.”

While what happens in the video is nothing groundbreaking, it has compiled over 371 million views.

Four years ago, the San Diego Zoo commented on the video, telling the user “jawed” “We’re so honored that the first ever YouTube video was filmed here!”

Yet another historic feat to add to San Diego’s legacy.
