Jessica Chastain visited Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Wednesday, to promote her new film The Good Nurse, but she also opened up about her humanitarian trip to Ukraine in August. “It was kind of like being in a video game,” Chastain said. “There were a few times on that day where I thought, should I be doing this? This feels very scary.” Chastain visited the cities of Kyiv and Irpin. She recalled visiting injured citizens in the hospital. “I don't want to get emotional,” Chastain said. “But it felt like when I was meeting the kids at the hospital, my heart was going out to them. There was a girl with her mom and she needed new legs. So that was really devastating.” Heavy fighting between Ukrainians and invading Russian forces have left the homes and buildings decimated. Chastain recalled visiting a family in one of those homes. “At one point I said, ‘Is that a bullet hole in the mirror?’” Chastain said. “I looked at the ceiling, there were bullet holes. The chair I was sitting in had bullet holes. And there's little kids. A 6-year-old, a 4-year-old. I don't understand what is happening to the world.” Chastain met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy while she was there, and promised she would do what she could to help. “If there's any way I can use my platform to help amplify other stories, you know, desiring freedom and equality and safety then I just feel it's my responsibility,” Chastain said.
