Zac Posen On Dressing Caitlyn Jenner: “It Was a Wonderful Surprise!”

Caitlyn Jenner’s amazing Vanity Fair editorial was incredible in so many levels, one of them surely, the beautiful gowns that seemed like they were custom made for her. One of the editorial’s most arresting images (that we’ve seen so far), finds Caitlyn wearing an off-the-shoulder black dress, in a totally va-va-voom silhouette, as she stares off into the distance surrounded by lights and a rack full of even more beautiful dresses. The designer? Zac Posen.

We caught up with Zac Posen, looking dapper in a blue suit, at the CFDA red carpet tonight with so many questions, did he know? Did he get to design the dress with Caitlyn? And as it turns out, Posen knew as little as we did. “It was a surprise for me today!,” he told us on the red carpet, “they told us they were pulling for a top secret story, and you know, we have such a great relationship with Vanity Fair that that kind of rapport is trusted.” So how does he feel about Caitlyn making her debut in one of his gowns? “It was a wonderful surprise!,” he said, before getting serious and adding, “It’s an incredible moment in history, it’s really changing views about personal creation and about people being able to be who they want to be. To celebrate their personality and their character, that’s really powerful.”
