On November 8th, the future of our country will be decided — but, because Election Day falls on a workday, it’s common for parents to run into childcare issues. That’s why the YMCA is doing something awesome for parents on Election Day and offering free childcare for people who are eager to rock the vote but may struggle to make it to the polling station with their children in tow.

The initiative is called “Zoe’s Day Out,” and it’s part of the organization’s Zoe For President mission, which aims to elect a girl who is one year old today as a president in 2064. The initiative is especially meaningful in 2016 because we have the exciting, historic opportunity to elect America’s first woman president this year.

Kevin Washington, president and CEO of YMCA of the USA, wants to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to make their voices heard in this election — but he knows that childcare presents roadblocks for some parents.

“Unfortunately, many people who want to vote find it challenging because they have to take children with them. The Y’s hope is that Zoe’s Kids Day Out initiative enables those parents and caregivers to exercise their right to vote, and ensures children can spend their time in a safe, nurturing environment,” Washington tells The Huffington Post.

A list of participating Y locations can be found on the organization’s website.

This is arguably the most important presidential election in American history, and unfortunately the polls have tightened over the past week. It’s crucial to make our voices heard and no one should be denied that opportunity.

The Y deserves major credit for doing everything in its power to ensure that everyone is able to exercise their right to vote in this historic election.
