Less than a full week into Trump’s tenure of President of the United States, and there’s already a second march planned, this time, scientists will march. Trump, a long-time climate change-denier has ordered media gags on the Environmental Protection Agency and the USDA. He also forced the National Park Service to stop tweeting indisputable facts about climate change, and signed an executive order to resurrect the Dakota access pipeline that the Obama administration rejected.

And now, inspired by the success of the Women’s March on Washington, DC, scientists are mobilizing.

The March for Science began as an idea on Reddit’s r/politics subreddit.

The event has since launched on Facebook, and in just two days, the @ScienceMarchDC twitter account amassed almost 35,000 followers.

The accompanying hashtag #ScienceMarch is trending.

According to an article on Gizmodo, the movement has been flooded with Google form requests to participate, even though organizers haven’t decided on a date for the march yet.

“Scientists worldwide have been alarmed by the clear anti-science actions taken by the Trump administration, Weinburg said in an e-mail to Gizmodo. “It has been less than a week and there have already been funding freezes and efforts to restrict scientists from communicating their findings (from tax-funded research!) with the public. These actions are absurd and cannot be allowed to stand as policy.”

The march is open to all citizens, not just scientists, who believe that the White House must honor science, for the health of our planet and its inhabitants.
