The Women of 'Game of Thrones' Wore Black for the Finale

From Harper's BAZAAR

One easy way to dress for a special occasion? Slip into your little black dress. Last night on Game of Thrones' epic finale, the leading ladies played the same card. Their frocks weren't particularly "little"-hemlines have yet to be raised on the gown-heavy show-but they were still black dresses.

The contexts in which they wore them differed-for some, it was for mourning; for others, it was a version of the power suit-but the outcome was just the same: a ridiculously good outfit. GoT is known for its elaborate costumes, and though characters tend to re-wear and recycle the same dresses, last night's episode introduced us to some new ensembles. They were fitting additions, too. If you're going to be crowned Queen of the Seven Kingdoms or about to conquer Westeros, might as well do it in a new black dress.

Daenerys Targaryen

Khaleesi is known to wear light or earth-toned fabrics to match her desert environment, but this time she went for something stronger. She debuted not one, but two new dresses. Even Missandei matched with her signature crop top combo in the same color.

Cersei Lannister

The Queen ditched the Lannister red and went for this armored black gown, complete with metal shoulder pads and chain accents. It's the perfect match for her new crown and more importantly, the Iron Throne.

Olenna Tyrell

Over in Dorne, Lady Tyrell fittingly wore all black to mourn her son and two grandchildren, who were killed by Cersei's explosive plot in King's Landing. Her ensemble featured rose embellishments and patterns, a nod to the Tyrell's family symbol.

Ellaria Sand

The remaining ruler in Dorne followed the same dress code when meeting with Lady Olenna. Though the Sand Snakes remained in their traditional mustard dresses, Sand went for this draped and strappy number.

Sansa Stark

Up in the North, Sansa continued to wear the black furs she's been sporting since she reached The Wall. It provided the perfect striking contrast to her red hair.

Yara Greyjoy

Like Daenerys, the leading Greyjoy sibling took on a dark color scheme on the sail west, accented by a few brown pieces of armor. Did someone say power suit?

Lyanna Mormont

Last but not least, little Lady Lyanna also sported all-black everything, which isn't uncommon in the wintry North. She rocked the outfit like the little boss that she is.
