We're all guilty of having a pair of go-to heels, trainers and flats that we can rely on to get us through the day blister free. However, according to one footwear expert we should avoid wearing the same pair of shoes or heels day in, day out.

Originally reported by Business Insider, Jim Kass, of American shoe empire Allen Edmonds, has suggested that you rotate what you wear from day to day "to extend the life of your shoes".

The reason behind this is a little unsavoury. When we wear shoes the material absorbs the perspiration from the feet, which is completely normal but, "if you wear the same pair every day, your shoes don't have ample time to dry and they won't maintain their shape," Kass explained.

Instead, try and rotate your shoe collection to allow each pair of shoes enough time to dry and retain their shape. According to Kass, real pros invest in a few shoe trees to help absorb excess moisture as well as keep shoes in top condition.

And it's not just sweat that you need to worry about as Dr James Christina, CEO of the American Podiatric Medical Association explained to Today.

"A lot of shoes have cushioning built into them, usually some sort of open-cell compression material." After wearing, this cushioning flattens out and needs time to spring back into shape.

So now you have two reasons to have a day off from your favourite trainers...sorry.
