Why hitting the snooze button isn't good for your health

There isn’t anyone on this earth that hasn’t pressed ‘snooze’ on their alarm clock, surely – in fact, most of us do it every day.

Admit it, though – does it make you feel any better when you finally wake up? Probably not.

And it isn’t just us, because apparently doing so really messes with your body clock.

According to a video by AsapSCIENCE, for an entire hour before you naturally wake up, your temperature rises and hormones such as cortisol and dopamine are released to give you enough energy to get started with your day.

Unsurprisingly, your 6am alarm interrupts your natural sleep, messing with this natural process and leaving you not fully awake.

And hitting snooze exacerbates this problem. If you fall back asleep after fumbling for the button, you’re in danger of totally restarting your sleep cycle and getting into an even deeper sleep than the one you were in when the alarm first woke you up.

In other words, you’ll feel even more tired, all for the sake of an extra 10 minutes.

So if you want to feel less rubbish in the mornings, you’re better off trying to go to bed and waking up at the same time each day so your body can adapt.

Oh, and when the alarm goes off, don’t hit snooze.
