Can You Wear Socks With Sandals on the Red Carpet? Kendall Jenner Thinks So

Kendall Jenner shows how to wear socks with sandals on the Cannes red carpet.

Two years ago, Cannes famously installed the “no flats on the red carpet” rule. But they never said anything about socks. Kendall Jenner tested the limits while at the French film festival this past weekend. Stepping out to attend the screening of 120 Beats Per Minute on Saturday, she turned heads in a billowing Giambattista Valli couture frock—though perhaps just as many eyes were on the statement she made below the ankle.

This wouldn’t be the first time Jenner has made us rethink something that’s usually considered an accessory faux pas. Why, just last March she styled oversize sunglasses with a hat, dunking the myth that you can’t wear both at the same time. She’s also been known to style last season’s naked boot with fishnet anklets for extra oomph. But the open-toe style seen here took the risk factor to the next level.

When coupled with gold metallic sandals, her semi-sheer socks in a sleek matte finish provided an unexpected play on shine and matte texture. Given that her dress came covered in a whimsical floral print and boasted a sweeping train trailing behind her, her socks took the preciousness out of the look while lending her summery shoes new life.
