The Design World's Hottest Print Trend: Marble

Marble…it’s a design trend that keeps on ticking. In the early 2010s, home accessories (lamps, serving trays, canisters) carved from the actual stone were an all-out obsession. In 2013, the fashion sphere hijacked the trend when Alexander Wang sent trompe l’oeil marble prints (dresses, heels and handbags) down the runway in his debut collection for Balenciaga. Five years later, the marble trend has come full circle, returning to the design world as a very different, very sophisticated version of itself.

Cult-loved brands like Dwell Studio, Firm Living, even West Elm and H&M Home have taken design cues from Alexander Wang and reimagined marble as a pattern rather than a stone. As a result, you can now find mural-sized wallpaper that looks like sliced agate, throw pillows that resemble Italian malachite and hundreds of fabrics depicting everything from Carrara marble to quartz.

Take this trend for a test drive in your own space, but remember this: these prints are meant to be bold, so don’t dabble in small touches. Dive in to something big and memorable that’ll define the entire room.
