Travel goals: You’re about to be obsessed with this gorgeous island you’ve never heard of

It’s summer, and summer is the perfect time to take a week off of work and travel to a fun, sunny location. So, uh, you probably already have your travel plans set up (I mean, it’s nearing the end of July, so, fair) but it might not be too late to cancel the trip you already made and set your money aside to travel to the western side of the Philippines, where the world’s ultimate best island is located.

The island is called Palawan, and in both 2013 and 2015, it was rated the World’s Best Island. That’s quite an accomplishment, based on the abundant amount of islands out there. Also, both Travel and Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler both declared Palawan as being a top-notch island, and those are two pretty credible sources.

Some of the benefits of Palawan include their clear water, white sand, and fantastic visuals — from blue lagoons to picture perfect palm trees, this place will be the paradise you never knew you wanted to visit.

Palawan is definitely a great destination if you’re looking to island hop (as, while Palawan is an island, there are also a bunch of smaller islands surrounding it) or snorkel. In fact, for snorkeling fans, it’s ideal — with such great water, you’ll be able to see a bunch of aquatic animals and corals that you’ve likely never seen in person before — including five (yes, five) types of endangered sea turtles. It’ll be a once in a lifetime experience, for sure.
