Picture this: You’re on a safari when the car you’re in breaks down. Then, as tigers slowly start to circle the vehicle, you’re told that the only way out is to make a run for it….on foot!

Sounds insane, but that’s exactly what happened to a group of tourists visiting Jiufeng National Forest Park near Beijing.

The 10 tourists were driving through the tiger enclosure when their car stalled due to freezing temperatures. The vehicle was about 100 feet inside the enclosure, and after the car failed the restart, their guide suggested they head towards the exit on foot.

The only problem is that there six adult tigers roaming free in the enclosure. As tourists contemplated their fate, many phoned friends and family to share their ordeal. Others snapped photos of the tigers, showing just how close the predators really were.

Some tourists made a run for it, and those who were scared (a.k.a. smart), waited until gamekeepers arrived to put each tiger in a cage. It was a 20-minute wait, but something tells us they didn’t mind.

When the visitors finally exited, they boarded another vehicle and were taken back to the tourist center.

After the incident, the park apologized and offered the tourists a full refund.
