Now You Can Dress Like Cam Newton, Too — But Here’s the Catch

Cam Newton knows the pressure is on: “I’m an African-American quarterback, and that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen anything they can compare me to,” he said during a recent press conference. But while Newton relentlessly tries to carry the Carolina Panthers to victory at NFL’s 50th championship game on Sunday, February 7, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, at least he’ll have something on the field to comfort him: a flashy new pair of golden cleats courtesy of Under Armour.

But there’s another—more personal—incentive that’s weighing on the all-star athlete, and it’s not the Heisman trophy or the jewel-encrusted championship ring. If the Carolina Panthers player secures the MVP title, then the athletic wear brand will reportedly sell 50 pairs of those same gold shoes, autographed by “Superman” himself for $500, with half of the proceeds benefitting the Cam Newton Foundation, which aids youth education and development.

Newton, who had planned to wear Super Bowl 50-themed boots for the tournament’s golden anniversary, became one of this season’s favorite players by leading the Carolina Panthers to a 15-1 season mark. Not to mention, with every touchdown he makes, the 26-year-old puts his killer dance moves (people have dubbed the move as “The Dab,” which has become a viral sensation), then generously hands the football to young fans. What’s not to love?

Throughout his breakout season, Newton’s also emerged as style star, most notably wearing a 2-foot-long foxtail keychain, which retails for $12,000, to press conferences. He likes to secure it to the loopholes of his jeans (very casual). Also, he adorns himself in fur hats, diamond bling, and glittery Giuseppe Zanotti slip-on shoes that are usually only seen on the runways of Milan—not IRL. But Cam Newton just owns it, and his looks have become celebrated by men across the country.

Good luck, Cam Newton! We’re rooting for you— and really, really want those shoes, too.
