Tips for Jesus Strikes Again — in the Name of Cecil the Lion

The massive tipping campaign #TipsforJesus has struck again.

A lucky server named Chelsea received a $1,000 tip on an $85 bill at The Irma Hotel, in Cody, Wyoming, on Thursday.

A photo of the receipt was posted to Instagram Friday with the caption, “There’s a better way to spend $55,000. #cecilthelion #godbless.”

The big-tipping movement Tips for Jesus started in 2013, when servers across the country reported getting massive tips on their checks. All that was left on the receipt was a note: “@tipsforjesus.”

Photos of the receipts are then posted to an Instagram page with the same handle.

It’s been long-rumored that former PayPal exec Jack Selby is behind the generous campaign. Over 100 photos of receipts with big tips have been posted to the account.

This time, whoever is behind the campaign seems to have wanted to send a message about the recent killing of a lion named Cecil in Zimbabwe by an American dentist. The killing of the prized and loved animal, which lived near Hwange National Park, has sparked outrage around the world.

The Irma Hotel, where the tip was left, is located just outside Yellowstone National Park, home to many wild animals, and was built by Buffalo Bill in 1902.
