As if it’s not already hard enough to pay attention in math class… A University of London student recently discovered that his lecturer, Pietro Boselli, was also discovered by Giorgio Armani. Boselli, who has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering with a focus on the computational design of steam turbines,  is represented by Models1 London.

Along with delivering stimulating explanations of the way things work, Boselli spends time training, hiking, biking, and competing in fitness competitions, regularly posting shirtless selfies on his Instagram page (he has about 174,000 followers).

Boselli’s double life has shocked his students (and made many more college kids consider transferring and/or changing majors), but he’s not the only one disproving the stereotype that models are nothing more than living clothes hangers. Karlie Kloss recently admitted she’s cutting back on job commitments, more specifically severing her contract with Victoria’s Secret to make time to attend NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Fellow top model Christy Turlington Burns, also a NYU alum, wrote Kloss a letter of recommendation, and she herself is currently in school, pursuing a master’s degree at Columbia University in public health. Tyra Banks took classes at Harvard Business School, Brooke Shields matriculated from Princeton, and Iman studied political science at the University of Nairobi—and speaks five languages.

Perhaps the most famous academic of them all though is James Franco (we’re counting his Gucci and Calvin Klein campaigns). The multi-hyphenate has his undergraduate degree from UCLA, received an MFA from Columbia University’s writing program, attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts for filmmaking and Brooklyn College for fiction writing all while simultaneously enrolled in an MFA program for writers at North Carolina’s Warren Wilson College for poetry. He’s a P.h.D. student in English at Yale University where he is a lecturer; he also attended the Rhode Island School of Design.

It’s been said beauty is nothing without the brain, and Boselli’s just the latest to prove it.
