This Adorable Necklace Can Help Save the Lives of Dying Children

The Gray Family.

Imagine having two beautiful children, both under the age of five, who seemed to be healthy and progressing normally, until suddenly, you’re told that they both suffer from a rare and fatal brain disease with no known cure.

That heartbreaking tragedy is sadly a reality for Hollywood producer Gordon Gray (who’s made a career producing inspiring sports films like Miracle, Million Dollar Arm, Invincible, and The Rookie), his wife Kristen, and their young daughters, Charlotte, 4, and Gwenyth, 2. When Charlotte was in preschool, her suddenly delayed progression led to a diagnosis of Late Infantile-NCL Batten Disease CLN6 —  a neurodegenerative brain disease that eventually renders its victims blind, immobile, cognitively impaired, and with a life expectancy of just six to 12 years. To make matters worse, Gwenyth then received the same diagnosis as well.

Though there’s currently no cure for Batten disease, the Grays are determined to help make headway in the research process by creating a charity in their daughters’ names with a goal of raising $10-12 million. Joining in their mission is New York-based, CFDA-recognized jeweler Me&Ro Jewelry, which exclusively designed the Charlotte and Gwenyth Gray Foundation Double Heart Pendant to help benefit the foundation.

The necklace in recycled 18k gold.

Featuring two linked hearts — with the charity’s logo engraved on one side — the delicate necklace is available in both sterling silver ($100-105) and 18k gold ($650-$700). Best of all, 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to finding a cure for Batten.

Said Robin Renzi, the designer and owner of Me&Ro, “When I was asked to help the Grays in their fight to raise money for their daughters’ foundation, I was so moved by their story I felt I had to do something. After talking to Kristen, their mom, I created a double heart pendant for Charlotte and Gwenyth. I believe we all can help and I am so grateful to be able to donate 100% of the net proceeds to find a cure.”

She’s not the only one who’s helping to make a difference: A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, Julianne Moore, Jessica Alba, Julia Roberts, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Garner, and Amanda Seyfried have all lent their support — and, in fact, the necklace was originally Roberts’s idea.

“We’re just overwhelmed by how wonderful and supportive Julia (Roberts) has been,” the Grays told People. “With so many worthy charities vying for celebrity attention, we’re grateful she has been willing to use her time and relationships to benefit our foundation.”
