Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” and is a celebration of feasts before Ash Wednesday. In New Orleans, Mardi Gras has become a whole series of festivals, parades, and activities beyond just Fat Tuesday.

The first Mardi Gras parade held in New Orleans is recorded to have taken place in 1837. New Orleans is world famous for its festivities, which are celebrated by residents and tourists alike. Many celebrities travel to NOLA for the party and partake by riding on floats and tossing beads.

Harry Connick Jr., a New Orleans native, is a staple on the parade route, Beyoncé’s sister Solange has taken NOLA as her second home and has been seen hitting the streets for the festivities. Solange’s niece, Blue Ivy, was spotted on her balcony. Over the years, plenty of celebs have said “just bead it” when it comes to Mardi Gras.
