Ask any self-respecting millennial and they'll argue to the death that the '90s were the best decade of ALL TIME. We had Jock Jams, 3-D Doritos, Limited Too,
Space Jam, the Spice Girls, All That, Beanie Babies, Lisa Frank Trapper Keepers...feeling nostalgic yet?
But, while all of these things brought us immense joy, there are other aspects of the decade we'd like to forget. By that, we mean beauty trends. We're not talking
all the beauty trends — just most of them. Regardless of how much we might cringe thinking about them today, we guarantee that most of you have sported at least one of these trends back in the day. Butterfly clips? We've been there. Overly glossed lips? Done that. Even our favorite stars were '90s beauty victims at one point or another.
So, if you're missing the days of gelled baby hair and frosted lips, you're in luck because we rounded up the best (of the worst) '90s beauty trends as seen on celebrities. Scroll through for a trip down memory lane.
Lip Liner Full disclosure: We love lip liner. It gives the appearance of a fuller, more defined pout. But, the liner look from the '90s — which is at least five shades darker than your chosen lipstick — is unlike anything we would wear today. Photo: BRIAN RASIC/REX USA. More
Lip Liner Sarah Michelle SLAYED (har har) the '90s. Buffy, Cruel Intentions, I Know What You Did Last Summer — all perfect. She was perfect — except for this minor beauty mishap. But, hey, we've all been there. Photo: Moviestore Collection/RexUSA. More
Over-Plucked Eyebrows Plucking our eyebrows until they were basically nonexistent was huge in the '90s. Even Madonna wore this look with pride, so you know it was a big deal. But, that doesn't mean it was a good one. Photo: Richard Young/REX USA. More Read More
Over-Plucked Eyebrows The bold-brow trend of today shudders at this look. Photo: Moviestore Collection/RexUSA. More
Baby Hair I can personally attest to this trend. Countless mornings were spent in front of the mirror, gel in hand, trying to get the perfect swirled look à la Chilli from TLC. If only I knew then what I know now, which is how ridiculous I probably (definitely) looked. Photo: Paul Skipper/Fotos International/Getty Images. More
Baby Hair Straight baby hair was also big, as Jenny from the Block shows. Photo: Matt Baron//BEImages. More
Wacky Updos What was it about the '90s that inspired women and girls alike to just have hair jutting from their heads? These spikes on Claire Danes definitely look like they could do some serious damage. Photo: CROLLALANZA/REX USA. More Wacky Updos Prom hair gone terribly wrong. More
Scrunchies Yes, we are aware that these hair accessories have been making a major comeback as of late. And, we're more or less okay with it. But, this image of Paula Abdul is proof that the look can go bad — fast. Photo: SNAP/RexUSA. More
Scrunchies We'd just like to point out that this is the same woman who shamed the scrunchie on Sex and the City (well, technically not her, but you know what we mean). We like to think this photo served as the inspiration. Photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic. More
Glossy Lips and Glittery Eyeshadow The infamous combo of the '90s. One was not complete without the other. And, no, it couldn't be just any glittery eyeshadow — it had to be the brightest shade possible. Photo: Ilpo Musto/RexUSA. More
Glossy Lips and Glittery Eyeshadow These Destiny's Child girls are embodying the '90s to the fullest. Glittery eyeshadow, lip liner, crop tops, overly glossed lips? Check, check, check, and check. Photo: The LIFE Picture Collection/Getty Images. More
Crimped Hair This is another trend that has been popping up over the years. Our question: Is this the kind of look attained via overnight braids? Photo: Andre Csillag/RexUSA. More
Crimped Hair Things also worth noting: that outfit. Photo: DAVE LEWIS/REX USA. More
Flat Twists This look was another strong contender for proms (or any other special occasion — middle-school graduation, anyone?). Whatever your event of choice, you always knew (thought) you were the baddest girl out — flat twists weren't for the weak. Photo: Barry Roberts/BEImages. More
Flat Twists The Mowry sisters sported this look better than all others. Photo: Barry Roberts/BEImages. More
Butterfly Clips Serious time was spent debating the appropriate size and cutest color to match our outfits. Important decision? Yes. Regrettable? Absolutely. Photo: BEImages. More
Butterfly Clips Do you think Claire's would do us a solid and restock these? We're in the mood for a little nostalgia in our 'dos. Photo: Matt Baron/BEImages. More
