Designer Raf Simons is now selling $200 duct tape that was featured on his Fall-Winter 2017 menswear runway. Here's why it's problematic.
A blizzard in NYC dumped a foot of snow all over both the streets and fashion editors’ footwear plans. This is your winter-dressing inspiration for the year.
For fall 2017, the runways were jam-packed with power suits and metallic looks worthy of a night out, while rich, autumnal colors like red and gold took center stage. Meanwhile, designers like Prabal Gurung and Christian Siriano got political, dressing models in slogan T-shirts showing their support for equal human rights.
Model Candice Huffine walks the runway for the Prabal Gurung collection during, New York Fashion Week: The Shows at Gallery 1, Skylight Clarkson Sq on February 12, 2017 in New York City. The rise of diverse faces this New York Fashion Week has sprung up an undercurrent of skepticism. As the public calls for representation in the industry, brands are learning the line between inclusion and tokenism.
The name of the game during New York Fashion Week is access. While the real Sisqó — the rapper of “Thong Song” and Dru Hill fame — was in Las Vegas, the man posing as Sisqó enjoyed front row access to some of the most exclusive runway shows and after-parties, including Philipp Plein, Vivienne Tam, and Kanye West’s Yeezy show. This Yahoo Style writer met “Sisqó,” who introduced himself as Lucky Galimier, at the Baja East party at the Gilded Lily club in Manhattan.
Even if you don’t recognize the name Yandy, you probably know some of the company’s hot items, such as “Native American Seductress” and “Sexy Undecided Voter.”
In contrast to his usual #NYFW spectacles, Marc Jacobs’s show at NYC's Park Avenue Armory was so minimalist many attendees didn't even realize when it started. Guests included Frances Bean Cobain (the face of Marc Jacobs's Spring 2017 campaign), Katy Perry, Zosia Mamet, Lil Kim, Mandy Moore, Lottie Moss, and Amanda Peet.
Kaia Gerber, the genetically blessed daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford and former model turned restaurateur Rande Gerber, celebrated being the face of Marc Jacobs Beauty with a party in her honor during New York Fashion Week. The teenager stunned at the event, but she wasn’t the only celebrity offspring heating up Fashion Week.
No matter how treacherous an experience it can be, the Yeezy show remains a much-anticipated spectacle each time NYFW rolls around. And even though last season saw editors being sent on a five-hour-long, hot, mysterious goose chase to Roosevelt Island for Season 4, the industry keeps coming back for more. However, West's longtime musical collaborator, Sia, isn't completely thrilled about his latest showing.
What a NYFW! Political messages, Planned Parenthood support, fights raging at a fashion party! Yet in between all of that, there was a lot of amazing fashion! We said bon voyage to homegrown designers like Proenza Schouler and welcomed Raf Simons for Calvin Klein Collection with wide-open arms. And let’s not forget about Yeezy!
Ralph Lauren presented a stunning collection on Wednesday night in New York City. Ralph Lauren debuted his fall 2017 ready-to-wear collection on Wednesday night at the brand’s flagship store in New York City. “My February 2017 Collection was inspired by a nomadic spirit, an exotic sophistication contrasting pure shapes with rustic textures, shades of the desert and burnished gold, and artful, one-of-a-kind jewelry,” Ralph Lauren said in a press release.
On the penultimate day of New York Fashion Week, Kanye West delivers to fashion insiders a collection that, until recently, wasn’t even confirmed to arrive.
Carrie Dragshaw, a drag queen who channels our favorite Sex in the City heroine (or is also known as Dan Clay IRL) did the rounds of New York Fashion Week for the first time and it was a dream come true. Just like Ms Bradshaw tapped out her clever musings on her laptop, Lady Dragshaw gave us her inside look at the week. As I started my first fashion week, I couldn’t help but wonder: What is fashion for?
At the Phillip Plein show on Monday, Tiffany Trump was left sitting alone after several magazine editors moved so they wouldn’t have to be near President Donald Trump‘s daughter. Some even tweeted that they had changed seats, with former Wall Street Journal columnist Christina Binkley posting photos of the 23-year-old with empty seats beside her. “You know what, Tiffany, I’m supposed to go to a couple more shows.
Or so was the case on Wednesday when the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality star brought sister Kim Kardashian West a bag of McDonald’s as a congratulatory gift for her husband Kanye West‘s well-received Yeezy season 5 NYFW show. “Look at these delivery girls, they’re so cute!” Kardashian West said in a Snapchat video. Kardashian West “ALWAYS” has to get an order of small fries with either chicken nuggets or she’ll get a cheeseburger and chicken nuggets and eat half of each.
Kanye West debuted Adidas Yeezy Season 5 on Wednesday, and while the sneaker-clothing collaboration was declared low-key and understated, Kim Kardashian’s head-to-toe purple outfit stood out.
On Wednesday, Kanye West held his Yeezy Season 5 runway show at New York City’s Pier 59. It was also, crucially, a lot smaller than Season 3, for which Kanye West packed Madison Square Garden. A Kanye West show will never not be some level of crazy — he’s just that big, and people are just that obsessed with him.
Michael Kors is one of the big shows of NYFW, so you expect a big crowd — and he did not disappoint this time. Emily Ratajkowski, Amanda Peet, Blake Lively … A gaggle of fashion fashion gals showed, including Margaret Zhang, Aimee Song, and Gala Gonzalez. Kendall Jenner closed the show in a strapless fringed gown with sequin embroidery.
Model Bella Hadid got emotional about walking down the runway for Prabal Gurung and Oscar de la Renta. In fact, the brunette bombshell was so overcome with happiness and pride that she shed tears at two different fashion week shows this week. Hadid was first moved to tears during Prabal Gurung fall 2017 show, when models, including Hadid herself, closed the show wearing politically charged T-shirts featuring slogans like “Nevertheless, She Persisted,” “I Am an Immigrant,” and “This Is What a Feminist Looks Like” (worn by Gurung himself).
This year, New York Fashion Week has become a sounding board for all things political. Most visibly, T-shirts and hats with political statements scrawled across them
Diverse casting, in both race and body type, seems to have hit an all-time high at New York Fashion Week.
Since Stuart Vevers took the helm as creative director of Coach in 2013, he’s been able to imbue new life and vitality into the 75-year-old American heritage brand. This season’s fall/winter 2017 collection continues to play off of the British designer’s approach to injecting a cool and edgy sensibility into the household label. Coach’s signature shearling jackets, leather moto jackets, bohemian-style dresses, and of course highly coveted leather bags were all firmly present in this collection inspired by New York City meets the prairie.
Gabriela Hearst makes fantasy clothes for real women. Take the navy double breasted cashmere a-line coat that opened her first-ever runway show; it had a hint of belonging into a queen’s wardrobe, and yet paired with merino knit long johns and white boots with a sensible (albeit heavily embellished) heels, it was a coat you could see yourself wearing everyday. For the South American designer, the fantasy is not in becoming a “punk princess,” or a “french ingenue,” or whatever other thing designers love to turn women into. ...
Jeremy Meeks has one impressive rags-to-riches story. Better known as the “hot mugshot guy” — he became Internet famous when his impressive (and quite sexy) photo went viral after he was arrested in 2014 — Meeks has leveraged his notoriety into a mesmerizing and quite lucrative modeling career.
