VFILES is a downtown NYC store, or collective (depending how fashion-savvy you want to be), where cool cult streetwear brands are birthed and where youth culture connects to the established influencers in the world. Today, VFILES will launch its new global marketplace where contributors and young designers can sell directly on their VFILES profile on the website and on the VFILES app. This will give designers control of their product and their inventory and the help of the tools provided by the VFILES platform.
Diverse casting, in both race and body type, seems to have hit an all-time high at New York Fashion Week.
Alyssa Milano brought along her daughter Elizabella Dylan Bugliari, Coco Rocha snapped selfies with Ioni James Conran from her coveted perch, North West cried her way through Yeezy, and the Beckham kids hammed it up with Anna Wintour. At Gypsy Sport, a model walked out in nude capri-length spandex with compression-looking socks, and white sneakers.
On Monday night the fashion glitterati streamed into Spring Studios for a dinner to announce the winners of the annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Prize. After four months of multiple design challenges, a full-on runway show presided over by Kim and Kanye at the Chateau Marmont, and countless meetings with the likes of Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg, the ten contestants were primed and ready for the results. “Tonight is the night,” menswear designer Thaddeus O’Neil said (somewhat nervously) walking into the venue. He was greeted by Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa who offered an encouraging pat on the back.
In menswear, it seems, the hottest trend is womenswear. While designers like Public School have been flirting with androgyny for years — dropping pants crotches into quasi-skirts and T-shirt hems into demi-tunics, all with an insouciant tongue extended at the Mad Men look — some of the newest acclaimed designers have gone full-out ambisexual. One of them is 29-year-old Rio Joe Uribe, the creative force behind Gypsy Sport, which made a splash during the last New York Fashion Week Men’s in July, and again on Tuesday night during the women’s collections. He’s been nominated for the prestigious CFDA /Vogue Fashion Fund Award for menswear, alongside Thaddeus O’Neil (one of his brethren in gender-blurred designs), and David Hart.
Vogue & the CFDA Announces 10 New Nominees In an effort to support nascent talent, Vogue and the CFDA established a Fashion Fund 12 years ago. The annual effort brings together 10 designers and their collections, which undergo four months of “design and advertising challenges,” a runway show at the Chateau Marmont, and a final presentation in front of a tribunal of the industry’s top experts and editors leading up to a big reveal on November 2. The newest nominees were announced on Wednesday night at a rooftop soiree at the Jane Hotel.
