When it comes to luxury fashion, there’s no doubt that items derived from animals — whether leather, wool, silk, or fur — are generally the most coveted. But that hasn’t stopped a growing number of vegan fashion visionaries from turning out stylish shoes, coats, sweaters, and bags for those who want to look amazing while also knowing they’ve not helped kill or torment any creatures in the process.
The time has come. Frigid mornings that make getting out of bed seem like a life or death ordeal, transitioning to warm summer-like afternoons that leave you sweating through your wool sweater. It can feel near-impossible to dress for fall’s fluctuating weather – but that’s also the beauty of the transitional season: you get to put your layering powers to use! Now is the time to experiment with your wardrobe, use items regardless of their season, and discover new dimensions of your clothes.

And let’s face it - none of us are exactly jumping with joy at the thought of layering up for fall again.

Yes it may still be blistering hot right now and denim may be the last thing you want to put on, but hey we gotta start thinking of the future right? But we all know that denim is one of the most difficult things to buy, with obstacles such as finding the perfect fit—and then there’s the price. Denim can be way more expensive than you think it should be—and prevent you from buying a leather blazer to pair with your jeans. To help you not spend your entire clothing budget on basics, we found 6 brands that are changing the denim game (read: they’re actually affordable).
This year parents are expected to spend nearly $76 billion dollars on school shopping according to the National Retail Federation. Of course, not all children are fortunate enough to be returning to school this September.
Sure, you could show up to class carrying a bone-stock, basic laptop that looks the same as it did the day it rolled off the Apple factory line. A colorful, kooky Anya Hindmarch leather sticker instantly ups any bag’s cool factor. A decal illustrated by an indie designer like Rookie’s Hattie Stewart makes the outside of your laptop (almost) as interesting as the screen.
Here are our 23 favorite backpacks, from classic printed ripstop to swanky exotic leather. Now, banish that grubby Jansport from your memory once and for all.
J.Crew’s newest bags are available today. The Signets come in trendy colors, are monogrammable, and can be personalized with a contrasting coin purse or key fob.
There’s two kinds of tights-wearers in this world: those who always opt for plain old, opaque black, and those who’d rather be styled by Miley than wear something so plebeian. Full disclosure: Most of us here at Yahoo Style are in the former camp — but that doesn’t mean we’re leaving the rest of you hanging. A fun pair of tights is the quickest way to add new life to a basic black dress. So if your holiday look could use some zhush, click on for our 14 favorite, better-than-basic tights.
Say the word “Thanksgiving,” and everyone automatically thinks of food. But let’s not forget the other half of that equation — the days upon glorious days of lounging around your folks’ house. Whether you spend that time catching up with family members, or mainlining Bravo reality shows, you’ll need some comfy-yet-presentable options to lounge in. Preferably something you can dash out of the house in at a moment’s notice when your libertarian uncle starts to annoy you, or if someone ropes you into their Black Friday shopping.
By Lauren Eggertsen Trying to juggle new trends and changing seasons can feel impossible, especially when it comes to footing the bill. We are firm believers in having your cake and eating it, too, so to ensure you’re on-trend and have a little cash to spare this fall, we’ve rounded up the best dresses under $100. You just may want to buy them all, but that would be defeating the purpose. Take a peek at our favorite affordable picks here!
By Kristi Mikesky While we embrace sweaters of all kinds, a particular varietal has captured our hearts this season: the lace-up knit. Equal parts cozy and on-trend, the new addition feels right at home in our closets ahead of winter. Pairing perfectly with trousers and midi-skirts alike, we applaud the piece for its versatility and certainly endorse investing in one ASAP. Ahead, 3 spot-on styles we’re obsessed with (plus one wallet-friendly version to score the look on a budget).
With the weather about to turn skin-bitingly cold at any moment, it’s time for the yearly ritual that some women dread, and others anticipate with childlike glee: Yes, we’re talking about pulling out your tights. Whether you’re a tights-hater or a tights enthusiast, no one really wants to think about them: We just want them to work. But sadly, the world is full of hose that don’t fit right, that run on the second wear, or that promise opacity and are actually, maddeningly see-through. That’s why we’re here to save you from inadequate tights.
It has come to our attention that some of you still aren’t down with the turtleneck’s return. Ahead, we’ll show you 11 cool ways to wear the turtleneck — that won’t make you feel like you, circa 1993.
The top color trends of fall 2015. You’d think fall color trends were as constant as the pumpkin-spice latte. But the truth is, they change pretty dramatically from year to year. We asked Polyvore to share its hottest fall color searches for the last few years, and the results say a lot about the way trends rise and fall — and give us a hint about what the color for fall 2016 might be.
Yesterday, we spotted Selena Gomez out in New York City wearing not one, but two different jumpsuits. She chose a white denim, wide-legged style for day, and a sleeker, black silk peg-leg version for night. While we didn’t think the look was a rousing success, exactly — both of these outfits felt a little under-tailored and under-accessorized to us — we love the idea of embracing the jumpsuit as a day-to-night staple. With the right styling know-how, this one-piece wonder can truly work for any hour of the day.
This weekend, Kate Moss stepped out in London in a Burberry leopard coat — one of her style staples, along with black skinny jeans and a Marb Light. Thousands of miles away, this author was trolling New York’s vintage stores on the hunt for the perfect ‘60s specimen. Hedi Slimane sent leopard coats down his Saint Laurent runway in Paris last week, like he does every season. We’d say there’s something in the air, but really, there’s just something about a leopard coat that makes it an eternally cool cold-weather staple for a certain kind of girl.
Today, we see proof of the old saw that, for fashion designers, the ideal woman’s body is, in fact, that of a pre-pubescent boy. WWD announced that the forthcoming fall campaign by fashion-forward Swedish brand Acne Studios will star Frasse Johansson, who is a 12-year-old boy. Jonny Johansson, Acne’s creative director (and also the model’s father), asked his son to be a part of the campaign because he believes the boy represents the “new breed” of consumer, for whom the “cut and character” of clothing is paramount, “rather than seeking approval from society or [following] set norms.” Indeed, the ads are part of a larger movement toward androgyny in fashion that’s interesting and liberating in some ways.
