Spring Cleaning? Pamela Anderson, Nicole Richie, and Whitney Port Won’t Be Partaking

Sunday was the first day of spring, and to celebrate, fashion’s elite came together in Los Angeles to honor one another at the Daily Front Row’s annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards held at West Hollywood’s Sunset Towers hotel. The new season means cleaning out closets, so we asked attendees — including Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, the entire Hadid family, Kris Jenner, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley — what’s the one item they own that even Marie Kondo couldn’t pry from their wardrobe.

Nicole Richie — who emceed the affair — admitted she owns one too many pieces to get specific. “I rarely get rid of clothes,” she told Yahoo Style. “I do little stuff here and there, but I buy a lot of vintage and I like to keep it. I like to wear something and then come back to it, like 10 years later. I’m a Virgo. That’s how I keep track of it all. It would look chaotic to you up front, but it makes sense in my little head.” Sure, but is there anything her husband, Joel Madden, would prefer to see go? “My husband doesn’t like sweats. He doesn’t like leggings. He doesn’t like a lot of things. He doesn’t like accessories, and I’m big on accessories. He doesn’t like hats. I’m not saying I don’t do it, but that’s not his thing.”

Just as Madden has a predilection for purging, so does Rachel Zoe’s hubby, Rodger Berman. “My husband constantly wants me to cleanse,” she said. “There are too many things that I’m very close to. I give away to a lot of the people in my life. I donate a lot. And sometimes I sell, but I haven’t done it in a long time. It’s very difficult to choose [what to part ways with] because I’m emotionally attached to a lot of things. If I haven’t worn it in a really long time and I don’t have a deep love for it, I can’t think of a reason or a place where I’d wear it, then it’s time to go.”

Whitney Port echoed the KonMari-like sentiment. “There are so many items in my closet that I should toss,” she said. “It’s at that point where it’s overflowing and I wear the same thing every day because it is such an annoyance to go through everything and try to pick out an outfit.” But if she had to single out one thing her friends tease her most about, it would be her “velour and terry-cloth Juicy Couture sweats. I can never get rid of them. Why would I? I wear them in the comfort of my own house.”

Angela Lindvall was one of the few who could immediately name a specific item … or two. “I have this pressed-wool Chanel jacket that has almost a Navajo trim. It’s worn out and I’ve had it fixed so many times, and the other day it ripped again,” said the model. “That and another white vintage dress that’s also starting to disassemble. It’s a nostalgia thing. It’s a feeling. A lot of my items like that — I then move to farm wear and I throw it on with my work boots and I just look chic in the garden.”

Nicola Peltz divulged: “There’s nothing I would toss out, but — maybe in other people’s minds — I should toss it out. … I wear the same pair of jeans all the time, and my girlfriends are like, ‘You have 10 other pairs. You should change it up.’ But I don’t want to. They’re so cozy. I’ve had them for maybe five years, but they look way older than that.” Her brother Will Peltz felt similarly: “I don’t know why I would toss it out, but I have an old T-shirt that I’ve had since I was in, like, middle school. It’s ripped and cozy and my girlfriend steals it a lot, but I sleep in it sometimes. It’s probably its time to go. It’s passed its expiration date, but I can’t let go of it. It’s too nostalgic.”

Pam Anderson, also wistful for the items in her wardrobe, told Yahoo Style she refuses to part ways with anything — and has an easy solution for her problem. “I’ve been around a long time. I have a whole storage unit of sentimental, but beautiful gowns and things that I’ve been given by friends like Gianni Versace and Alaïa and Vivienne Westwood,” she said. “I have a lot of very sentimental pieces of clothing, which is probably hard to believe because I’m not a big clothing person.” When pressed if she plans to re-wear any of the items, she laughed, “I don’t ever have to shop again. Especially when you go back 20 years — I can wear those old Alaïa pieces.”

The former Baywatch star made the evening a family affair with her sons, Dylan Jagger Lee and Brandon Thomas Lee. “They invited me,” she said. “They’ve both done a little modeling and acting. It’s something they’re doing on the side. I’m not pushing it. It’s not something I want for them, but it’s fun. They might as well enjoy their beauty.” Though she insisted they give her tips — not the other way around. “They give me fashion advice all the time. Believe me. I ask them. It’s all them.” Her son Brandon agreed, “She’s old-fashioned.” This prompted his mother to feign hurt and joke: “I’m old-fashioned. Yes. Thank you.”
