Sofia Vergara Thought Joe Manganiello Was “Too Handsome” for Her

Sofia Vergara might be an international sex symbol with a hot bod and unreal hair, but the 42-year-old actress was initially skeptical about now fiancé Joe Manganiello. Why? Because he too is strikingly attractive. Vergara cements her sex symbol status on the cover of Vanity Fairs May issue, where she reveals that the the True Blood actor was already on the prowl by the time she sent out a press release calling off her engagement to former fiancé, Nick Loeb.

Manganiello attempted to contact Vergara via Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who relayed to her that he said, “’Please, please, please tell her I want her number. And I’m like, ‘Jesse, no, he’s too handsome,’” Vergara tells the magazine. “Then, after two days of Jesse trying to convince me, I’m like, O.K., give him my number. I’m thinking, I’m in New Orleans shooting, and he’s in L.A. Nothing’s going to happen. But we started talking a lot, and then he showed up in New Orleans. Since then we’ve been inseparable. There’s nothing about him I’d change other than the fact that he’s four years younger than me [he’s 38].”

Vergara might be one of the hottest women in the world, but she’s still a woman, so of course there’s something she’d change about herself. “My boobs are, like, huge,” she said, melodramatically stating that throughout her whole life buying a bra has been a nightmare. Her solution? When she first moved to Los Angeles she discovered that bras for strippers fit best. And yes, she has shopped in the pole dancing section since. “Believe me, I wish I had fake boobs. I lay down and they completely go down like all the way, like here.” She added: “It’s not fun.”

Having a large chest, small waist, perky butt (oh the pains and pressures of being hot!), does mean that Vergara’s fashion choices are restricted to non-sample sizes or custom-made designs. She favors tight and body-hugging looks — who wouldn’t?! — from brands like Vera Wang, Zuhair Murad, and Donna Karan. But because she favors the flattering silhouette, fashion critics often criticize her for not taking risks. “Sometimes you read in the press like, oh, Sofía is wearing again the same shape dress, and I want to answer them and say, What the f*** do you want me to wear? Obviously there’s a reason why that’s what I go for.”

Haters don’t stop at her dresses, unfortunately. Vergara’s Modern Family character, Gloria Pritchett, gets similar negative attention for playing into and perpetuating stereotypes to which the actress says, “If Gloria is a stereotype, so what? Who wouldn’t want to be Gloria?” The better question might be: Who wouldn’t want to be Sofia?
