This is the stuff of nightmares – and bad horror movies. A snake somehow slithered onto an airplane in Mexico, interrupting passengers mid-flight.

The Associated Press reports that the reptile appeared Sunday during an Aeromexico flight to Mexico City from Torreon. The plane received priority landing in Mexico City so workers could “secure the reptile.” No word on if there was a villainous plot or not: Investigators still don’t know how the snake managed to get on the flight.

Passenger Indalecio Medina posted a video to Twitter showing the green snake slithering behind the overhead compartments before dropping to hang from the ceiling. Twitter users retweeted the video more than 1,700 times.

NOPE. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE. NO THANK YOU.

Thankfully, the reptilian stowaway didn’t cause panic.

“People remained calm because it didn’t get out of that space and nobody became hysterical,” Medina said. “Some people got up to see what kind of reptile it was, but nobody got carried away.”

Aeromexico says it is “taking precautions” to make sure no snakes make appearances on other flights. To that we say: They’d better!
