Smiling is the New Black: Models Look Shockingly Happy on the Runway This Season
The easiest way to look like a model? Other than starving yourself, look miserable at all times. For some reason, a death stare (or resting bitch face) is the reigning look on the runway. Models should not smile or blink, they should be silently willing all the photographers to die in a fire, all the editors to slip on banana peels, they hate their lives, even with their hair done to the nines while wearing the most expensive clothes on the planet—and they want you to know it.

Except this season, models appear to be having fun on the runways. It could be another effect of the return of the ‘90s on the runways, when models really hammed it up for the cameras, doing ultra-dramatic poses and sometimes even high-fiving each other on the runway. Or it could just be that everyone’s tired of the same ole’ attitudes at the show. Whatever the reason, this season we’ve seen Kendall Jenner actually smile on the H&M runway. At Fendi, Joan Smalls was trying very hard to hold back her laughter, trying to break Karlie Kloss’s serious face (she was not victorious in her attempt, but I certainly enjoyed seeing her try from the sidelines).
