The premise for the new NBC series Drama High is definitely one to get excited about, as it's basically the new Glee. Based on the bestselling book by Michael Sokolove, the show's story is inspired by legendary high school theater teacher Lou Volpe, who is a former teacher at Harry S Truman High School in Levittown, Pennsylvania. Volpe is known for bringing groundbreaking (and sometimes controversial) productions to his school, such as Rent, Les Misérables, and Spring Awakening. The series will follow some of his students as they navigate life, friendship, and ~drama~ in high school.
Last month, it was announced that Moana's Auli'i Cravalho would be joining the cast as a student named Lilette, and this week, another exciting casting announcement was made. Shannon Purser – AKA Barb on Stranger Things – will officially be appearing on Drama High as a student named Annabelle.
According to CNN, Shannon's character will be competing for a role in a production of Spring Awakening, which means something major: We're going to get to hear her sing. That's right, we're about to see Barb in a whole new light – and we officially cannot wait.
