I will never understand the mentality that causes gross scumbags to steal people's private photos and put them on the internet. What is anyone gaining by doing that? What kind of disgusting sociopath finds pleasure in that kind of act? Ugh.
Celebrities are regular targets, and Emma Watson is reportedly in the midst of a photo hacking scandal now. Variety reports that the Beauty and the Beast star is gearing up for legal action against someone who stole her private photos and leaked them online.
Watson's rep assured reporters that the stolen images are not nude photos, but instead show Watson trying on clothes.
"Photos from a clothes fitting Emma had with a stylist a couple of years ago have been stolen," her rep said in a statement. "They are not nude photographs. Lawyers have been instructed and we are not commenting further."
This is after social media and blog posts started reporting that Watson's private photos had been shared to an anonymous message board. The reports said actress Amanda Seyfried had also been targeted.
Watson was threatened with the release of private photos in 2014, after she gave a speech to the United Nations about gender equality. Thankfully, that turned out to be a hoax.
One of the largest celebrity hacks of all time occurred in 2014, when two men hacked Apple's iCloud and stole nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, Kate Upton and others. Edward J. Majerczyk, of Chicago, and Ryan Collins, of Pennsylvania, were found to be operating independently of one another in that hack. Majerczyk was sentenced to nine months in prison, while Collins was sentenced to 18 months.
