Seattle-based barbershop Rudy’s has an Instagram feed filled with colorful hair, throwback vibes, and cool products. But, what the brand is particularly known for — which you might not know from a quick scroll — is their longtime involvement in the LGBTQ community. According to Vanity Fair, their partnership with the It Gets Better Project helps provide showers and cleansing products to LGBTQ and homeless youth. (Rudy’s isn’t alone in its mission to deliver haircuts and social justice hand-in-hand either; recently, MOP hair care announced a partnership with LGBTQ sensitivity and education training program, SafeInMyChair.com.)
"Homelessness disproportionately affects the LGBTQ community, with almost 40% of homeless youth identifying as LGBTQ," Brian Wenke, executive director of It Gets Better, told Vanity Fair. “When considering the complexity of the issue, it is easy to lose sight of the small day-to-day essentials that can have a big impact on someone’s life—like access to personal-care products.” That’s where Rudy’s comes in. The brand is tying their 1-2-3 Showering System (citrus-scented shampoo, conditioner, and body wash) to the cause. For every purchase within the next two months, they’re promising to donate a week’s worth of the same product to a shelter serving LGBTQ youth — giving you an impactful way to give back.
