Resellers Are Peddling Rihanna’s Puma Slides for Massive Amounts on eBay
For those of you still on the hunt for the furry Puma sandals Rihanna recently released, we hope you’ve got some extra cash lying around because you might need it if you want to get your hands on these babies. The $80 slides made their big debut on April 22 and are already sold out — and going for a pretty penny from resellers on eBay.
As the Daily Mail points out, shoppers with an entrepreneurial spirit bought up the slides and are now peddling them at the e-tailer for much higher than they originally went for. Some of the priciest listings we’ve seen include a single pair for $1,000. Another one offers all three color ways in a teeny-tiny size 5 1/2 for $999 — not exactly a bargain considering how much the shoes actually cost, but when people are asking as much as $400 for a single pair, that exorbitant price tag looks a lot better.
We can’t really be surprised that Rih’s slides are going for so much on eBay. This happens pretty much anytime a popular celebrity releases anything. (Just ask Kanye about his Yeezy Boosts!) Plus, the trendy creepers Rihanna released with Puma a few months ago caused a similar effect, so, duh, of course those pool slides were going to sell like crazy.
We wager that Puma may decide to restock the slides in the future, giving fans an opportunity to scoop up the shoes at their original, far more reasonable price. (The average eBay listing goes for $179 — more than twice one pair’s $80 value.) If the demand is this high, it makes sense for Puma to try and pocket the money themselves.
In the meantime, those of us who didn’t manage to get the furry footwear will just have to cough up the extra coins — or at the very least, try a little patience.
