Think about what’s in your fridge right now. How much food is about to go bad? (And be honest!) We’ve all been there: You fill your fridge with healthy, fresh food—then find you’re unable to eat it all. You throw a bunch of it away, which makes you feel guilty.

Well, a free iPhone app from Italian developer Giorgia Marenda may be the solution. Ratatouille allows people to share excess perishable food with other app users. Users simply upload a photo of their food, enter a description, and arrange a drop-off location. One can view others’ fridges, mapped:

The idea for the app came out of a competitive 20-hour-long Hackathon, an event in which computer programmers, designers, and other tech experts collaborate on software projects. Ratatouille walked away with the top prize.

Granted, Ratatouille is only as useful as the size of its user base. According to an announcement on the app’s Twitter, it currently only has about 300 users. But just think about how handy Ratatouille might be if it had millions of users around the world.

It’d mean less waste, and that’s something we can get behind.
