Each year, spring is
the season the fashion world decides to re-embrace color; it's a time to say a sound 'goodbye' to the all-black outfits that symbolized our feelings on the weather of the cold months before. And though we can call trends off the runway until our faces turn blue, it's not until the temperatures change for good that we can confidently call any emerging patterns — like what shades we should be adding to our closets.
So, we at Refinery29 have thrown our heads together to come up with a definitive list of spring 2017's coolest colors. A month in, we've watched a few particular hues elbow their way towards the front of the pack — things like a smile-inducing poppy red, and a muted lilac fit for your most Instagram-worthy. Your closet may be looking a bit brighter than it did just a month or two ago, but really, does anything feel as good than switching things up every now and then?
Hot Pink We'd be lying if we said we were over the millennial pink craze. There's just something about the sweet, pastel-meets-candy shade that we just can't get enough of (in not just our clothing, but in our beauty routine, our home decor, and even what we eat). This spring, though, we've been blessed with a new shade from the same family: hot pink. It's eye-catching and edgy, and packs enough punch to make a major statement, regardless of how you choose to wear it. Solid & Striped The Chelsea, $158, available at Solid & Striped. Lilac There's something so refreshing about pastels for spring. Poppy Red Red has been popping in and out of the trend pool for quite a few seasons now. And while we've always loved the scarlets, the rusty reds, and the oxblood tones that have found their way into our closets, we're particularly excited to start embracing bright poppy. It's vibrant and bold, and always a confidence booster. Expect us to be pairing this shade with some new white sneakers all spring long. Babaton Ruslan Dress, $115, available at Aritzia. Not-So-Burnt Orange It's as simple as it sounds: Take burnt orange, turn the heat down to a low simmer, and voila — you get one of our new favorite hues. It's got the rustic and warm feel of our favorite fall tone, but is just light enough to blend in with the rest of our spring styles.
