PSA: apparently the Titanic didn't actually sink after all
According to conspiracy theorists who clearly haven't watched the 1997 classic, Titanic, the famous ship didn't actually sink, reports The Daily Star.
Doubting the historical events which caused the "unsinkable" ship Titanic to do just that, ending the lives of 1,500 passengers and crew after it collided with an iceberg in the Atlantic ocean during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, some people believe the Titanic was actually switched with its sister ship The Olympic.
Writer Robin Gardiner, who's the author behind The Great Titanic Conspiracy, is a keen believer of this conspiracy, claiming the two vessels were swapped as part of an insurance scam.
The Olympic reportedly had a history of collisions, which conspiracists believe were too costly to repair. For this reason, they believe the ship owners swapped the boats, sending The Olympic out on voyage under the guise of being the brand new Titanic; which might explain why such catastrophic damage was done after colliding with the iceberg.
According to the theorists, perhaps if the ship had been the brand new Titanic as it was purported to be, the collision with the iceberg might not have led to it sinking. And Gardiner is pretty set on his version of events.
"The evidence is overwhelming; eyewitnesses themselves describe running along Titanic's decks, but where they said there were promenades, there should have been cabins," he said, adding: "While survivors on B Deck described seeing lifeboats being lowered from above, there's no way they would have seen that on Titanic – only on the ship Olympic."
So who knows which ship currently resides at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean. But all Iam certain of is that The Olympic doesn't have nearly the same ring to it for a Hollywood blockbuster as Titanic does.
