As anyone who plays the runaway hit gaming app Pokémon Go on their smartphone can tell you, it’s not a game, it’s a way of life.
Nepalese designer, Prabal Gurung is clearly in that camp, as he has partnered with the 20-year-old Pokémon company to offer a capsule collection inspired by the now infamous characters in the game: Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and obviously, Squirtle).
The nine-piece collection features dresses, trousers, sweaters, and skirts incorporating the characters’ motifs end even color palettes.
But your passion for Pokémon will cost you. The collection, which will be sold exclusively through Jeffrey New York, retails from $325 for a simple T-shirt to $1,7,95, for a four-ply short sleeved color block tunic dress with embroidered cording.
“The Prabal Gurung customer is always a strong, passionate, global and modern woman,” said the New York-based designers in a statement today. “With this collection, we engage a younger clientele who still embraces our elevated sense of style. Working with the Pokémon brand provided a fun and whimsical opportunity to be able to have a conversation with this youthful customer.”
Like so many designers today, Gurung is no stranger to a collaboration or two. He is currently working with Lane Bryant on a plus-side line, and has also partnered in the past with brands such as Toms, not to mention his mammoth line for Target in 2013.
And while Pokémon apparel is already available in the form of children’s T-shirts and pajamas at retailers like Amazon, this is certainly the first time Pokémon has been quit this posh.
