January is here, and my New Year's resolution to become more active has been proclaimed. The increase in activity means an immediate reboot of my activewear wardrobe is in order!
I still remember how hard it was to find cute workout clothes for my size 16/18 figure when I was growing up. If I wanted anything other than a boring, all-black cotton legging I was left trying to stretch into a standard size XL, which rarely fit the bill. Thankfully this is 2017, not 2007, and more brands then ever recognize that we plus size women are not all afraid to show off our curves, and we deserve to be represented.
Lane Bryant's new Livi Active campaign even featured a diverse group of active plus size women that includes yogi and self-love activist Jessamyn Stanley. Body positive gyms like Blink fitness also used real members in their 'Every Body Happy' campaign, which switched out the idea of a perfect body and lofty weight-loss goals for body inclusivity. It’s refreshing to see brands move toward including non-traditional models that love their bodies, stretch marks and all. The awesome thing is that this inclusivity has created an exciting surplus of brands supplying us with trendy activewear.
This season's athleisure trends include bold colors, interesting print details, and plenty of mesh inserts. If you’re like me and don't want to sacrifice your fashion sense when working out, have no fear. I have rounded up 14 fun and bold plus-size activewear pieces that will get you excited to work out in 2017!
