On April 28th, Julien's Auctions will hold a sale of items from the estate of the late actor Patrick Swayze. Swayze, who died of cancer in 2009 at the age of 57, is perhaps most famous for his iconic role in the film Dirty Dancing, and the auction will include a selection of items from the movie, most notably, a leather jacket that the actor sported in a number of scenes and promotional images for the film.

In the 1987 movie Swayze starred as Johnny Castle, a working- class dance instructor at an affluent summer resort who falls in love with Baby, a guest at the resort played by Jennifer Grey. He wore the leather jacket throughout the film, including during the beginning of the legendary final scene of the movie when he dances with Baby during the resort's talent show.

The jacket, which is estimated to sell for between $4,000 and $6,000, encapsulated his character so perfectly that he even wore it in a variety of the film's promotional images.

The role of a dance instructor was a natural fit for Swayze, who trained as a dancer at the Joffrey Ballet Company in New York City and starred in Broadway musicals before he began acting in movies. Four pairs of his dance shoes are also up for auction, estimated to sell for between $400 and $600.

The rest of the items in the auction reflect the actor's varied interests. Cowboy boots, Native American and African art, costumes from a variety of movies, and rustic furniture from his Los Angeles ranch will all be included in the sale, along with awards, personal items, and even memorabilia from Ghost, Swayze's other iconic leading role.
