Packers-Loving Groom Marries Marie Packer in Packers-Themed Wedding, Will Take His Wife’s Last Name
Ryan Holtan-Murphy celebrated two of his greatest loves in one day when he and his wife, Marie Packer, married on Saturday, June 17.
The Green Bay Packers super-fan and his blushing bride exchanged vows at the Willis Tower in Chicago, where they regaled guests with Packers-themed decorations, including centerpieces and place cards. Holtan-Murphy even surprised their gathered family and friends with a Packers-themed suit at the reception, a sight to see in green and gold.

The sports-loving couple first met in September 2014 during the groom’s law school reunion in Madison, Wisconsin. It was there that the former New York City-based attorney found himself smitten with Packer, who was cousins with his old friend Sarah. The duo belted out tunes at a karaoke bar and kept in touch over the next few weeks.
Then, on a dare, Holtan-Murphy flew from London to Chicago, where Packer was based, just in time for Halloween. They went on their first date to Shedd Aquarium and promptly fell in love. Holtan-Murphy proposed in March 2016, at the very spot of their first date, Shedd Aquarium. The couple decided that he would take on Packer’s name, a decision that would spark numerous stories and articles about the fun-loving pair.
The happy groom tells The Knot he couldn’t be more excited to start their lives together—as Mr. and Mrs. Packer. “It feels great! Just like marrying Marie, it feels like coming home,” he says. “She’s my perfect match and this is just further proof of it!”

Melissa Phillips of Simply Perfect Events helped coordinate the wedding itself, while Jacob Poehls of JPP Studios captured the details of the Green Bay-approved nuptials.
The bride and groom are currently enjoying their honeymoon in Turks and Caicos (decked all-out in Packers gear, of course), and the enthusiastic groom is currently looking into getting his last name changed, telling ABC News it was a “no-brainer” to take her last name.
“We’re the Packer family now,” he said.
