Dress Up as Anna Wintour and Uma Thurman With One Wig
Scrambling to find the perfect costume for Halloween is stressful, but those of us in fashion know that it’s the haircut that really makes or breaks an outfit. All you have to do is invest in the right wig — our favorite this season is the classic bob — and pair it with basics from your closet. The best part? It won’t even come close to breaking the budget.
Here are the five winning looks:
1. Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction: While the blunt cut certainly made her Mia Wallace character iconic, it was also about her oversized white dress shirt (steal this from your husband or boyfriend), skinny black pants or leggings and simple ballet flats. Don’t forget the details: the vamp nail polish and a femme fatale cigarette are a must.
2. Anna Wintour: Because we are talking fashion, this one seems obvious and it’s pretty easy to customize an editor-in- chief ensemble from the clothes in your closet. Go for a matching skirt suit (maybe one you wore to an interview? Or borrow it from your mom?) and pair it with big oversized shades. And then remember to throw plenty of that when you’re out.
3. Dora the Explorer: You just need a bright color t-shirt and shorts, preferably in rainbow-friendly hues like pink, orange, and yellow. You just might need to snatch the purple backpack from your sister or daughter.
4. Louise Brooks: The American actress and dancer supposedly invented the bob back in the roaring 20’s. To get the flapper look, wear an old slip, toss an old faux fur over your shoulders and top it off with a bunch of long fake pearl necklaces. Nude stockings are a plus.
5. Jane Lane: Though she may not be a household name, you know her from MTV as Daria’s BAE and the one with the real sense of style. Just ask Katy Perry, who channeled her for Halloween a few years ago. For this 90’s vintage look, combat boots and black sheer stockings are a must. To go full grunge, add a bright colored blazer with a black top and black shorts or a mini skirt.
