One of the World’s Most Famous Supermodels Is Teaming Up With Bill Nye
Karlie Kloss is one of the most well-known supermodels in the world. She has walked catwalks for top designers around the globe and has been the face of too many brands to count. Now, she’s about to add another position to her résumé, and it has nothing to do with modeling: Kloss just signed on as a correspondent for Bill Nye’s new Netflix show, Bill Nye Saves the World.
The supermodel will star alongside Nye and four other correspondents, including MIT-trained engineer Emily Calandrelli, comedian and writer Joanna Hausmann, comedian and radio host Nazeem Hussain, and scientist Derek Muller. In a short promotional video featuring Nye and the correspondents, Netflix announced that the show will premiere in spring 2017.
The Netflix series will cover different science-related topics during each episode. “Since the start of the Science Guy show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science,” Nye said in a press release. “Today, I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little.”
This isn’t the first project outside of modeling that Kloss has been involved in. Earlier this year the 6′2″ Victoria’s Secret model launched a coding camp for young women called Kode With Klossy in conjunction with the Flatiron School and the New York City Foundation for Computer Science Education.
The camp is a scholarship-based program for girls ages 13 to 18 that allows them to learn how to create code and build apps. The free two-week sessions took place in St. Louis, New York City, and Los Angeles throughout this past summer. The organization also awards a scholarship every month to one young woman who is interested in enrolling in the Flatiron School’s online Full Stack Web Development curriculum.
Kloss is also passionate about furthering her own education and is currently enrolled at New York University to get her B.A.
