Remember how in college, you had your prerequisite major courses — like accounting 101 or microbiology — and then you had your okay-to-sleep-through electives? Well, for a long time, face masks were kind of like the latter. They were the "Introduction to French Wines" in your everyday skin-care schedule, in that they were fun and served you
some purpose, but they weren't exactly necessary. Then everything changed when the K-beauty wave hit the states. Suddenly, there was a treasure trove of mask innovations that made them more useful than ever.
At the forefront of the movement was Peach & Lily, a company that puts the most cutting-edge products from Asia in the hands of U.S. consumers. And now, the beauty brand is making its offerings more accessible than ever. It just launched a specially-curated
Mask Bar in Barneys retail stores that features cool, never-before-seen formulations that are surprisingly affordable. You've got pill-shaped water-jelly masks, fizzing masks, masks for men, dry paper masks, and so many more.
We asked Peach & Lily co-founder Alicia Yoon to walk us through a few favorites, so click ahead to check them out.
Sparkling wine lovers, meet your face mask match: "The sheet mask design packages the cleansing and rejuvenating power of a bubbling, wash-off mask with just one step," Yoon says. "These micro-bubbles boost circulation and whisk away blackhead-producing grime." Just like a sip of prosecco, skin feels instantly refreshed.

Lodged inside these cute pill-shaped cases? Two servings of a jelly modeling mask. "Blue is for hydrating the skin, green is for soothing, and pink is for plumping and brightening," she says. Just mix step one and two of the goopy gel formulas into the cup, blend with the included spatula, and slather onto skin. "Make sure to save the cute pill bottles. They're awesome for transporting wet bathing suits, sunglasses to keep them scratch-free, or your toiletries when traveling."

Batman -themed eye mask is prime for selfies, but there's a lot more to it than that: It's spiked with skin-illuminating vitamin C, adenosine, and natural botanicals. "This thing actually works," Yoon says. "Get ready for a brighter and more plumped up under eye area. Make sure you follow up with a lightweight moisturizer after use to seal everything in." We've heard all the buzz surrounding
dry sheet masks, but this Korean take on the trend is a lot easier to grasp. It's double-sided, with fuzzy fabric on one side and a slightly sticky, pudding texture (which contains the essence) on the other. "The formula was baked into this mask slowly over a cool temperature four times over," Yoon explains. "This technology allows the essence to melt onto skin. Eventually, the slightly puffy mask becomes flat as everything absorbs into skin." Peach & Lily Eco Your Skin Face Blanket Mask, $12, available at Barneys and Peach & Lily. More Read More
If you can't get your boyfriend, brother, father, uncle, or cousin twice removed to slip on one of your pink sheet masks, maybe you can convince him to try this one. "Men have a slightly thicker epidermis and more sebum production than women, so it makes sense they need a different mask," she says. "This balances skin and helps keep sagging at bay."

Yet another bubbling innovation — which has been used as a treatment in more than 1,000 leading skin clinics in Korea — this pre-soaked pad starts to foam with just a squeeze of your hands. "The combination of vitamin C, AHAs, and the pad itself gently buffs away all dead skin cells and dissolves impurities though both chemical and mechanical exfoliation. Meanwhile, the fermented extracts, hyaluronic acid, and botanical extracts keeps the skin hydrated, so it's supple post-exfoliation."

This cutting-edge formula uses vitamin C dots (which are "fresh-freeze-dried onto a dry mask, says Yoon), plus the ampoule blend of rosehip oil, ceramides, and 10 multivitamins to brighten up your complexion. "This one leaves skin slightly tacky but with noticeable brightness, so it's best to use at nighttime when you're not applying makeup afterwards."

We'd pick this bad boy up for one reason alone: It includes an AHA-spiked cotton swab that you can sweep along hard-to-reach areas with blackheads. Step two is a jelly-soaked sheet mask that's meant to soothe and brighten your visage. "You can use them together or separately. If your skin feels fine after the first step or you just ran out of time, you can save step two for another day! There's a lot of jelly in the second package, so be sure to scoop it out and pat the rest onto your neck, chest, elbows, feet, or anywhere else you're dry."

This ampoule pad is perfect for traveling, and is packed with the max amount of vitamin C allowed in a skin-care formula, "but it's paired with hydrating ingredients like fermented extracts and soothing lightweight oils to ensure skin doesn't dry out," Yoon says. "It feels like a very damp, refreshing serum, and leaves skin incredibly even-toned." Warning: Don't use this one if you're allergic to peanuts — it was formulated with hydrating peanut oil.
