Neighbors Think Airbnb Renters Are Robbers and Call the Cops

So here’s a new downside to Airbnb — when the neighbors think you’re robbing the house you paid to stay in.

It happened to Stefan Grant, a rapper and producer from Washington D.C. known as STEFisDOPE, and he live tweeted the incident.

Grant and his buddies rented a place via the home-stay site while in Georgia for a music festival. According to his tweets, when the neighbors saw the men at the house, they called 911 and the cops showed up.

But Grant and his friends took it all in stride. It “wasn’t totally unexpected,” Grant told Slate. “We’re black kids in this Leave it to Beaver neighborhood, you know?”

According to Grant’s tweets, the police were just doing their jobs and handled the incident well. Plus, the neighbor who called the cops apologized to the guys and said there had been recent robberies in the area.

Grant, who says the “DOPE” part of his name stands for “Driven On Positive Energy,” left his Twitter followers with these wise words: “Life is 10% what happens to you & 90% how you react to it.”
