Mychael Knight, former 'Project Runway' star, has died at 39

According to Obvious magazine, the outlet the Knight family chose to share the news, Knight died at 7:25 a.m. ET outside Atlanta on Tuesday. TMZ reports that Knight died at a hospital where he was being treated for intestinal problems.

“We are still processing the untimely death of our son, brother, friend, and uncle,” said his family through a statement to Obvious. “Mychael meant everything to us and we loved him dearly. He was generous and so full of life. This is how we choose to remember his legacy.”

Twitter mourned Knight’s death.

Most know Knight from the third season of Project Runway in 2006, where he won a “Fan Favorite” award and placed fourth. In 2013, he also competed in the show’s “All-Star” edition, placing eighth.

Knight, who in 2007 launched his namesake fashion label on BET’s Rip the Runway, dressed celebrities such as Khloé Kardashian and Jennifer Hudson.

He also designed custom “My Starbucks” T-shirts for the coffee giant, released a unisex fragrance called Majk, and created a men and women’s lingerie line called Kitty & Dick. In September, Knight presented his SS18 collection during New York Fashion Week.

Knight’s friend Towanda Braxton, the star of Braxton Family Values, wrote on Instagram: “My dear talented friend. Thanks for loving my family. You were the FIRST designer to dress us for #BFV. The fashion world will not be the same without you.”
