Men Spend 3 Weeks of Their Lives Waiting for Partners to Shop
If you’re sticking with the stereotype that women love shopping and men hate it, you’ll find this particular news validating (or depressing): The average guy will spend three weeks of his life waiting for his significant other to finish shopping.
A new poll commissioned by Andrews Air Conditioning found that a man spends just over 23 minutes of each shopping trip waiting outside a store or changing room. According to the survey, couples shop together twice a month. So this amounts to almost 47 minutes a month, or nine hours and 22 minutes a year, of waiting around shops. Over the average person’s adult life, this is the equivalent to 24 days.
Of the 2,000 adults surveyed, half of the men said they follow their partner around the store, while 37 percent find a spot out of the way and just wait there. Others stand or sit at the entrance to the shop, texting and scrolling. One in 10 uses the time to get some food or a drink.
The worst part is that more than a third of couples admit that making a partner wait while shopping has led to arguments. Yikes.
OK, we get it. It sucks for guys. But, in the grand scheme of things, waiting around for a little while isn’t that bad. In fact, it doesn’t even rank in the top 10 most frustrating things about shopping. The participants said crowds are the No. 1 shopping annoyance, with long lines and lack of sizes coming in second and third. Also more irritating than waiting? Hot stores, aggressive salespeople, inattentive salespeople, loud music, unclear prices, and whiny children. Waiting for a partner is the 21st most bothersome thing about shopping.
Of course, there are the guys who do like to shop, and there are plenty of women who’d rather watch the game. So, let’s not take this survey too seriously.
