Martha Stewart Admits to Being a Gamer at the 'Pixels' Dinner Hosted by Yahoo Style & Zac Posen

Billionaire. Lifestyle guru. Avid gamer?

That’s what Martha Stewart confessed at last night’s dinner for "Pixels," the action comedy about retro arcade villains—think Donkey Kong and King Koopa—invading the earth. “I did enjoy those older games,” Stewart admitted, “but what I really liked was [the science fiction role play game] Myst—remember Myst? That was brilliant… and then there was Farmland. I loved that game. I played it every day. Until one day, I looked up, and I said, ‘Wait a minute. What am I doing? Why am I playing a video game about running a farm… when I actually run a farm? Who has the time for this?!’” Not Stewart—though she did spend time curating the night’s menu. “There’s burrata, wild sea bass, and Amish chicken,” Stewart shared, to the delight of diners like Iman, Grace Bol, and Laura Love—all of whom proved that models do eat… at least when America’s domestic goddess gets involved.

“Did you ever play Hopper?” asked Jane Krakowski, who appears in Pixels as the (fictional) First Lady. “That was a good one. I loved Centipede, too. But the problem with talking about video games is, you know, you automatically date yourself… though I guess it could be cool and retro,” she laughed, “like saying your dress is vintage, and not just something you bought in the ‘80s!” (In the film, Krakowski wears Oscar de la Renta, “which seems very appropriate and presidential.”)

“You know what video game I could play for hours?” asked Zac Posen, sporting a Brooks Brothers suit he customized by—and for—himself. “Tetris. To me, that’s the most classic and the best game of all time.” As Posen perched between Victoria’s Secret bombshells Liu Wen and Cindy Bruna, he resembled a giant game piece himself—slim, color-blocked, and placed just-so in the lineup. “The only problem with my Tetris obsession was that my mother was so much better,” Posen laughed. “So my friends would come over, and one by one, they’d all start playing Nintendo against my mom. And she’d beat all of them, always!”

“I do like it when the woman beats the boys,” Michelle Moneghan interjected, “though my favorite video game is Pac Man instead of Miss Pac Man. I know I should go for the female character, but Pac Man is more fun to play!” Also fun: the stunt training she did for Pixels and her next movie, an action thriller called Sleepless Night that co-stars Jamie Foxx. “I’ve been training in Mixed Martial Arts,” she grinned, “and let me tell you, it’s better than kickboxing, better than Pilates… it’s the best workout ever for your behind… or for kicking someone else’s.” Does that mean Ms. Moneghan can beat up Mr. Foxx in between film takes? “I mean,” she shrugged, “somebody’s got to do it.”
